Gianni Versace grew up in Reggio Calabria, Italy, where it all began for him. He learned the beginning steps of being in the fashion world by just watching his mother who was a dressmaker. He said he always saw magazines in his mothers dress shop with huge fashion icons on them, but he said it all just seemed to come naturally to him. Although Versace said he was content where he was, he moved in 1972 to Milan to start designing. The streets of Milan sparked inspiration for him. He is known for his vulgarity because he was the first to make fashion something interesting to view. He was also influenced by his home town Calabria because of the beautiful art that it had. He couldn't leave his hometown behind so he incorporated the themes of Italian Baroque, Grecian motifs and Estruscan symbols into his designs. He always had an interest in what was new in the world and this is what seemed to always make his designs prosper.
